Even when: 다가도

A / V + 다가도 combines 다가 and 도 to show a sudden change in action or situation. It can be equated to the structure 'even when I am V1-ing, I stop and V2'. It often occurs with an 'if' clause:

저는 피곤하다가도 여자친구가 전화를 하면 같이 항상 놀아요.

Even when I'm tired, if my girlfriend calls then we hang out.

고등학교 때 시험 준비하다가도 친구들과 축구를 하곤 했어요.

In high school, even when we were preparing for exams I used to go out and play football.

저는 화나다가도 제일 좋은 곡을 들으면 춤을 추곤 했어요.

Even when I was angry if I heard my favourite song on the radio I would get up and dance.

공부를 많이 하다가도 페이스북으로 영국친구한테 메시지를 받을 때마다 항상 응답해요.

Even when I'm studying a lot, if I receive a Facebook message from my UK friends I always respond.

우울하다가도 달리기를 하면 머리가 식혀지고 기분이 좋아해져요.

Even when I'm depressed, if I go for a run I clear my head and start feeling better.
