A/V + 지 않아도 되다 and A/V + 안 아/어도 되다 both express the idea that an action or state is optional, not essential. They combine 'not' (지 않다 and 안) with 'to be OK if' (...도 돼다) to form 'you don't have to':

In Saudi Arabia, foreign women do not always have to cover their hair.

If you are traveling long distances during Ramadan, you don't have to fast.

You don't have to do it now.

If you check in online first, you don't have to queue at the airport.

Unlike in Riyadh, in Shanghai you don't have to worry about being hit by a car when you are on a pedestrian crossing.

You don't have to be tall to be good at basketball.

There is an underground train service on the weekend so you don't have to take a taxi.
