Word Wars: 차이 vs 다르다 (to be different)

차이 comes from the Hanja '差異': means to differ and and means to be strange or alien.

A와 B는 무슨 차이가 있나요?

What's the difference between A and B?

서울과 뉴욕은 시차가 얼마나 되지요?

What's the time difference between Seoul and New York?

리야드와 런던은 2시간의 시차가 나요.

There's a two hour time difference between Riyadh and London.

[성 ]차별을 받아본 적이 있어요?

Have you ever been discriminated against [because of your gender ]?

(저에게는) 아무런 차이가  없어요.

It makes no difference (to me).

세상에 빈부의 차이가 증가하고 있어요.

The difference between rich and poor is increasing around the world.

다르다 is the pure Korean adjective 'to be different':

A와 B는 너무 달라요.

A and B are very different.

사우디아라비아와 달리 한국은 사계절이 뚜렷해요.

Unlike Saudi Arabia, Korea has four distinct seasons.

대부분 영어 선생님이 몇 년마다 다른 학교으로 이사해요.

Most English teachers move to another/a different school every few years.

다름이 아니라 관광하러 파리에 가 봤어요.

I went to Paris for no other reason than sightseeing.

제가 만든 죽 맛은 대형마트에서 산 죽 맛이나 다름 없어요.

My homemade soup tastes no different from the soup bought from the supermarket.
