Before and after: (ㄴ) 후에, (기) 전에

V +  ㄴ 후에  and N + 후에 mean 'after V-ing' and 'after N' respectively:

보통 밥을 먹은 후에 물 한 장을 마셔요.

I usually drink a glass of water after a meal.

그들은 은퇴한 후에 생활을 더 쉽다고 말했다.

They say that life is easier after retirement.

결혼식 후에 저는 매우 피곤했어요.

After the wedding, I was very tired.

마지막 시간 후에, 나는 돌아오지 않다고 말했다.

After the last time I said I was not coming back.

V + 기 전에 and N + 전에 mean 'before V-ing' and 'before N' respectively:

너는 나가기 전에 잘 들어주세요.

Before you leave, please listen carefully.

한국에 오기 전에, 저는 김치로 유명하다고 들었어요.

Before coming to Korea, I heard that it was famous for kimchi.

크리스마스 전에 특별 예배는 교회에서 있어요.

Before Christmas, there are special services at church.

경주 전에 준비 운동하기가 중요해요.

Before a race, doing warm up exercises is important.
